Analysis of influencing index and reason of MDF board quality

In the production process of the MDF, it will go through layers of links, and in these layers of links, there will be different factors to cause the quality of the MDF board. The indicators that affect the quality of the MDF board mainly include static bending strength, plane tensile strength, dimensional stability, nail grip force, hypersonic expansion rate, and so on. What are the reasons that affect these indicators?

  • Static bending strength is low

The reasons are: 1. The finished MDF product density is low; 2. Slow closing and compression speed; The product density gradient is small, that is, the section density distribution is unreasonable; 3. The amount of adhesive applied is not enough, the distribution is not uniform, the quality of the adhesive is not good, the water content of the slab is too high or low, resulting in the incomplete curing of the adhesive; 4. Poor quality of fiber raw materials or low fiber separation; 5. The hot pressing time is too long or insufficient.
  • Low plane tensile strength

The reasons for low plane tensile strength are as follows: 1. Insufficient sizing and poor adhesive quality; 2. 2. The pressure speed is too fast or too slow; 3. Insufficient or too long hot pressing time; 4. The moisture content in the slab is too high or too low, the temperature is low, and the adhesive is not completely cured; 5. Low density or unreasonable distribution of sectional density; 6. The proportion of recycled fiber is too large; 7. Poor fiber quality; 8. The MDF board is not cooled enough, and the stacking temperature is too high; 9. Uneven sizing.

  • Poor dimensional stability and deformation

The reasons are as follows: 1. When forming, the density and thickness of each layer are not proportional, the difference is large, the distribution of upper and lower layers is not symmetrical and the water content is not equal; 2. The gradient of table and core density is too large or too small; 3. During hot pressing, the temperature difference between upper and lower hot pressing plate or the same hot pressing plate is large; 4. The MDF board cooling is not enough, that is, stacking plate support is improper; 5. Sheet stacking without backing plate; 6. The air humidity in the storage area is high; 7. The amount of sanding on the upper and lower surfaces is different, or the thickness of the upper and lower hard layers is different.

  • Low grip force

The reasons are: 1. The density is too low; 2. The density gradient of the core layer is too large; 3. Insufficient sizing, poor sizing uniformity.

  • High hygroscopic expansion rate

The reasons are: 1. The sizing amount is insufficient or the adhesive is not fully cured; The quality of glue; 2. Low wax application amount or uneven distribution; 3. Low plate density, poor fiber shape and quality; 4. The PH value of the adhesive is not properly controlled, which affects the curing of the adhesive or the self-condensation of the fiber.

The above are the indicators that affect the production quality of MDF board and the reasons that affect these indicators. MDF board manufacturers need to check each layer in the production process and pay attention to the details of each link to ensure that the products produced out of the warehouse are of good quality.
